It’s amazing what happens after three days of steady downpour here in Southern California. The lake near Lucky Baldwin’s historic cottage in the L.A. Arboretum has filled again. But the weather folks tells us those three days of rain may be the only winter rains we receive this year. It rarely rains in summer in California. (I think someone wrote a song about that.)
You can see the almost-empty lake two posts earlier on this blog.
So after I took photos of the now-full lake, I wandered back toward the entrance and came across evidence that a coyote had eaten a delicious dinner overnight. Feathers from a Canada goose were scattered all over the great lawn at the Arboretum.
Well, I hope it was a coyote. They are seen from time to time here on the streets of Pasadena in broad daylight.
As the drought has increased more wild animals have come out of the mountains around Los Angeles. A few days ago a mountain lion killed a 100 pound dog in a backyard and then threatened the police who came to the scene. Scary!
Canada geese are everywhere in the Arboretum. The peacocks usually just hang around near the entrance and I caught one perched above the entry.
