Grand Park in Los Angeles: a little new, a little raw, quiet on this weekend in 2013

city hall seen from Grand ParkGrand Park in–well, I started to write downtown Los Angeles, but “downtown” in Los Angeles could be in several locations.   Anyway, Grand Park which begins on Grand just south of Temple  has been officially opened for public use for several months now.

It looks like a new park.  The trees are immature, except for the full grown palm trees.  Everything is very neat and clean.

Four blocks long, the first block in front of City Hall is mostly grass.  It’s an ideal space for public gatherings, like demonstrations or riots or Fourth of July celebrations.

One of the more inviting areas has park benches, plus tables and chair–all bright pink.  Because office buildings, many of them government office buildings, line both sides and one end of the park, it is no doubt a welcome escape for government employees at lunchtime.

A bit further along on the next level are fountains, including one that children were enjoying on the hot Sunday afternoon when I visited the park.
