Oooh scary! A tsunami zone sign on the streets of Venice California

I was in Venice taking photos of locations for another project, but I got distracted and began photographing the murals that are on both public buildings and private fences.  Yes, fences–those wooden things that surround the edge of a property.  As I was driving around less than a half mile from the beach, I came across the Green Girls mural.  So I parked my car and got out.

And then saw the Tsunami Zone warning sign.  Venice is flat, as is most of the West side of Los Angeles.  At one time it was all just shallow sand dunes.

I also wonder how the L.A. city sign people decided that the tsunami would only reach to this street?  The sign is intended to alert pedestrians that they are ENTERING a tsunami zone.  What if it’s a really big tsunami?   Would it go rushing further inland?  There are no nearby hills to run to in case of tsunami, but I suspect there are warning sirens somewhere so we can all get in our cars and drive to higher ground–which would be a very L.A. thing to do.  but then…I bet there would be a colossal traffic jam that most people one would not escape.

Anyway…  Here is the Green Girls mural and there will be more to come about Venice.
