Rain didn’t stop the bicycling in South Pasadena

626 golden streets
There were almost as many umbrellas as bicycles. This photo was taken right after a big downpour.

The 626 Golden Streets bicycling event in the San Gabriel Valley is the first open streets event of the year. The name of the event comes from the area code, 626, for this part of Greater Los Angeles.

However, in keeping with the drenching we have received this winter in Southern California, rain arrived mid-day and slowed the participation in this fun event, where many streets are either entirely or partially closed off to motorized traffic.

The first CicLAvia event of the year is On March 26, 2017 in Culver City and Venice.

The Tour of California ends in Pasadena in front of the Convention Center on May 20th, 2017..

While this event is not a race and there is no beginning or end, the organizers put up an inflatable green arch over the Mission street near the Metro station.

As the event ended a big Metro truck pulled in to pick up the Metro bicycles lined up along Mission Street. The Metro is expanding its bicycle rental service into Pasadena soon.
