Holi is an ancient festival of India celebrating the arrival of Spring. Maybe you didn’t realize exactly what the festival was named, but we’ve all seen photographs of happy, laughing Indian people drenched in colored powders. It’s always looked like something fun!
Here in Los Angeles a very clever DJ has now developed a ‘Holi’ type event and calls it the ‘Color Festival’. Instead of hand-held drums he plays the latest dance music on a sound system that can be heard blocks away.
The South Pasadena Educational Foundation hired him to hold this event as a fundraiser for the schools. While there were not the thousands of people seen at Holi festivals in India, there were hundreds of parents and children at the Color Festival on the playground of a school in South Pasadena and all seemed to be very happy. (I was wearing a white shirt and decided not to get involved. I just took photos.)
