Max Ernst sculpture

Art and music and it was free at the All Access day in downtown L.A.

taking a lunch break
A small plaza next to the Broad museum with ancient olive trees is the perfect place for a lunch break.

After photographing the Dia de los Muertos altars in Grand Park and viewing ‘Nimbus’ at Disney Hall, a lunch break was in order before I began the second stage of enjoying art and music at the All Access Grand Avenue.

earth without art
Stenciled on the sidewalk near Grand Avenue was this very true saying!

In the afternoon I visited the Museum of Contemporary Art and on my way back to the Metro station saw a human jukebox and a stencil on the sidewalk that summed up this day’s experience.

Here are some photos of part of what I saw. There was much more. Maybe next year…

max ernst sculpture moca
A sculpture by Max Ernst created during his stay in Arizona and now part of MOCA’s permanent collection.
museum visitor at moca
This woman was standing perfectly still when I entered this gallery and my first impression was that she was a work of art. But no. Just an art lover looking at her smart phone. Curiously, she is reflected in the vertical black sculpture next to her.
rauschenbergs interview
Rauschenberg’s Interview reminded me of how much artists loved found assemblages back in the 1960s and 1970s.
pergamon museum ii by struth
One of the more astonishing works from the MOCA permanent collection is this hyper-real photograph of the Pergamon Museum by Thomas Struth. It looks as if you could walk right into it.
do I look like a lady video
Viewing the video ‘Do I Look Like A Lady’ by Mickalene Thomas at MOCA. The seating was comfortable and the two channels of video were outstanding. Do not miss this!
human jukebox at colburn school
A student at the Colburn School of Music was playing a violin to help raise scholarship funds. The audience was invited to drop money in one of 4 jars and then he would play something in that musical genre. He played classical, jazz and fiddler styles.

And on my way home on the Metro I saw this ballerina warming up.
