Street corner art, a lavender house, pinwheels on a fence in South Pasadena

Whimsy seems to be taking over South Pasadena.

I went there to shoot photographs of al fresco dining along Mission Street–and there are plenty of places to enjoy morning coffee, brunch, etc. at outdoor tables. But I came across outdoor art that deserves at least 15 minutes of fame and a house  painted colors of the tropics…well, you can see one of them below.

Girl Talk in South Pasadena
A corner telephone/cable trunk box has been painted with a work entitled ‘Girl Talk’. The artist is identified as Legit Im, but I suspect that it should read: ‘Im Legit.’ Amusing!
Street corner art So Pasdena
At the corner of Fair Oaks and Mission is another telephone/cable box painted colorfully. The man’s face looks like Brad Pittt gone slumming –at least to me.
Huge Foolish Proect So Pasadena
It’s entitled ‘Huge Foolish Project’ and I’d have to agree that paper pinsheels on a chain link fence is foolish. And actually not huge. The vacant lot is used for a pumpkin patch in Fall and for Christmas tree sales in winter.
Lavender House South Pasadena
A house painted Lavender? And it’s an old Craftsman style, too!
South Pasadena historical museum
This tiny historical museum about South Pasadena is next to the Gold Line station and faces the stone trough for watering horses. The trough was built in the late 1800s to be a stopping point for riders between Los Angeles and Pasadena.
Astriede-Aside Walking Man statue
Next to the Gold Line Metro station in South Pasdena is Michael Stutz’s bronze statue entitled Astride-Aside. I’ve always thought of it as the Walking Man. There are 6 places for outdoor dining within a block of the station.
South Pasadena
Someone has planted pumpkin seeds on the median in the street near the Gold Line station. Or maybe it was accidentally planted by someone at the Thursday Farmers’ market.
Fair Oaks Pharmacy at 100 years
The famous Fair Oaks Pharmacy is one of 8 places along Mission Street in South Pasadena for dining outdoors. It’s now 100 years old.
