The 7th Street Metro station is where the Metro Red Line, Purple Line and Blue Line converge and it is filled with people rushing from one place to another ignoring the tiles that line the station.
Instead of making a mad dash for the Red Line I stopped and saw that what the tiles depict are hundreds of famous scenes from movies going back decades.
One entry to the 7th Street Metro station has three amazing tile panels which are very unlike the long movie mural tiles down in the station.
It was fun to take a few minutes to check them out and see how many movies you can recognize. They are grouped by film genre so if you have a passion for monster movies or Westerns or musicals you can find them clustered together along the wall. The tiles are hand-painted–not photographic transfers of movies images.
In a future post I’ll show some other tile murals in other Metro stations. The Red Line and Gold Line have the best art in the Metro stations. The newer Metro stations are, sadly, fairly boring.

And, of course, there are tiles honoring movies about artists, although none seems to be about tile-makers.
