I always thought the amazing Castle Green in Old Town Pasadena was an apartment building. Why? Because when I was first apartment hunting in Pasadena ten years ago I saw an ad for a rental there. It was, I knew, part of an old hotel built in 1895 but, alas, the apartment was only 600 sq. ft.–half the size I needed–although a good size for a 1800s bachelor hotel room. So I found something else, larger and newer a few blocks away.
Then today, when I looked through the flyer announcing the annual tour, I read that it is a condominium complex. The self-guided tour is of the public areas of the building, which have been restored to Victorian standards and they will be serving a “Victorian sampler”. I’m not sure what that is! The tour also includes access to 30 private units in the building.
Check online at Castle Green Tour for their annual December tour. Hours are 1 – 5 p.m. If you plan to visit Pasadena using the Gold Line Metro, get off at the Del Mar station.
