Ever secretly wanted to be like Katniss Everdeen? Now is your chance to take an archery lesson at the Roving Archers range in Pasadena. Classes are held for children as well as, separately, for adults. The first lesson is free and additional classes are $5 each.
Better yet, you do not even need equipment. They will supply the bow and arrows as well as instruction. Just show up at the Lower Arroyo on any Saturday morning at 7 a.m. to find your inner Katniss! (Well, ‘any Saturday’ except Christmas and New Year and if it is raining.)
The Roving Archers range is the oldest public archery field range in America and the group has been dedicated to the bow and arrow since 1935. In recent years they have been holding an annual archery tournament and this year it will be held on October 19th.
They have also become a topic of controversy within Pasadena in the last couple of years. Now there is a petition to support the Roving Archers continuing presence in the Lower Arroyo Park.
[NOTE: The Pasadena City Council allowed the Roving Archers to continue offering classes, especially for children, in the Park although now they have a smaller area.]
